How I Got an A on All My Midterms

Hey loves!

As we are approaching finals, it’s important to know the best way to study for your tests. And how much time you should be spending on studying.

I think of midterms and finals as pretty much the same thing. One just has more material on it as the other. So I study for them in the same ways.

I was able to get a 90% on my calculus 2 midterm, and 92% on my chemistry midterm, and a 97% on my honors midterm. I don’t want to boast or anything, but I was super proud of myself for that!

And I want to share my tips and tricks with you all, so you can ace your finals and future tests!

1. Give Yourself Enough Time

I think this is the most important tip. If you aren’t setting aside enough time for each subject, you will find yourself cramming. And I am not a believer in cramming.

Start studying for each final at least one week ahead of time. Or as soon as your professor gives you the study guide (if they provide one).

From here, make a study plan. Write out what you will study each day before your test. I recommend this trick for any test that you have coming up, but especially for midterms and finals. There is a lot of material that you will have to recall, so making sure you are solid on everything is important.

2. Go Over Past Tests and Assignments

This is a great way to go over concepts that you may be struggling with. By making sure you understand why you got an answer wrong, and why the correct answer is what it is, you are enhancing your learning and the concepts will stick with you better.

If you really find yourself struggling to understand why you missed some questions on an exam or assignment, go see a tutor or your professor. You’re only helping yourself.

3. Go Get Help

Like I said, if you are struggling with concepts, go get help. When I find myself struggling with some chemistry homework, I head over to one of my TA’s office hours before I go to lab. It’s not any extra time out of my day since I have to head to lab anyway, and I actually get my homework done quicker.

I also get help with calculus from tutors through my school. They are free and sooo helpful! It’s great to take in any study guides or practice exams to check to see if you are understanding things completely and fill in anything that you may be missing.

4. Do All of Your Reading

Alright, I hope this one is a little bit of an obvious statement, but it’s true. My honors midterm was pretty much just a test to check that we had been keeping up with the reading. Because I had been, I was able to do really well on it.

This is also helpful for your other classes. I try my best to do all of the recommended reading for chemistry before the next class. Yes, I do get behind, but I make sure to find time to catch up in it.

5. Take Care of Yourself.

I don’t believe in cramming the night before a test. I believe in getting enough sleep to be able to function in your classes. Because after all, what’s the point of going to class if you can’t even pay attention?

Taking care of yourself also means making sure you are eating enough and taking time for yourself. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I like to use coloring as a way to relieve stress. In between different subjects, I take about 10-15 minutes to just relax.

In the end, I think the most important parts to succeeding at your tests is to plan out your time accordingly, and make sure you aren’t too overwhelmed.

If you are ever feeling overwhelmed in your studies, send me message and I will try my best to help all of you out! Even if you just need someone to talk to, I’m more than happy to help!

Why I’m Planning on Taking 8 AM Classes Next Semester + Next Semester’s Schedule

Hey loves!

We are SO close to the end of fall semester! I can feel it! And I’m ready for it!

One of my favorite things about the end of the semester is getting ready for the next semester. Probably because it gives me something to look forward to while finals slowly approach.

If you don’t know this already, I’m in the honors program here at my university, which comes with the special perk of early registration! So while my peers are still waiting to register for the spring semester, I’m all set!

Next semester I’ll be taking 18 credit hours! I know, I’m just a little crazy… But with no marching band in the spring, I’ll have more time to conquer some more classes, so I’m going for it!

But here’s the really crazy thing…

I’m taking 8 AM classes. Every. Day. Of. The. Week.

And I’m doing it willingly. Actually, I planned on taking 8 AMs before I even registered for classes.

I know. This goes against every single college blog out there. Everyone says, “don’t take 8 AMs, you’ll regret it.” And maybe I will. But I’m going to share with you the method to my madness.

So, first off, you should know that I went to school every day at 6:30 AM during high school. So, honestly, 8 AM doesn’t sound that early for me.

Secondly, I have one day a week this semester where I had to go to class at 8. And I’m not going to lie, I hate it. But I think there is a reason why I hate it:

My body’s internal clock isn’t used to it.

If I’m only getting up early once a week, yeah, I’m going to regret it. But if I have to get up every day at the same time, you eventually get used to it. It stops being as hard (as long as you are getting to bed at a reasonable hour).

But there’s really one main reason that I want to take 8 AM classes:

I will get more done in the day.

I’ll break it down for ya.

If I’m getting up at 6:30 AM and I have all of my classes before noon, that leaves me with the whole afternoon to go to discussions, labs, and to do homework. It means that I’ll actually get up.

If I don’t have a class tile 10 or 11, that means I’ll probably have classes in the afternoon, which means I’ll only have the evenings for homework, studying, labs, etc.

I know what you’re thinking. Why don’t you just get up earlier to do homework? I won’t. If I don’t have an actual commitment to do early in the morning, I won’t get up early. I know it for a fact.

So, that’s why I’m willingly taking 8 AM classes. And in all honesty, this is a little experiment that I’m trying. If it doesn’t work well for me,  I won’t try it again and I’ll find a different plan instead. And of course, I’ll let you all know the outcome of it 🙂

Now that you know my latest idea, here’s a look at my schedule for the spring!
